Major Lazer - "Pon Di Floor" video!

Question: What do you get when you cross Diplo's blatantly surreal Major Lazer project with the bizarrely hilarious comedy of Eric Wareheim (of Tim and Eric Awesome Show fame)?Answer: This insane music video. Enjoy:

Love & Electrik new single "Sex Video" out on Tremendous Records.

Vancouver's Love & Electrik made waves recently when their new single "Sex Video" was put out by Tremendous Records, the label started by Grandtheft of Team Canada/Eh! Team fame. This is definitely a band to watch out for - they've got synth like Chromeo and soul like Motown. "Sex Video" is a go-to dance floor jam.

New WESC!

Check out these new drops from WESC! These pieces, featuring designs from graffiti legends Stash, Marok, and Delta, will be part of their Fall/Winter 2009 collection . WESC has long been putting out innovative artist collaborations and these new pieces definitely push the aesthetic further.

LOOKOUT Presents: Flying Lotus July 11 at Club Lambi!

Red Bull Music Academy, LOOKOUT and The Goods are proud to welcome experimental producer Flying Lotus on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Club Lambi in Montreal.

Since 1998, Red Bull Music Academy has seen over 500 lecturers and 600 emerging music makers walk through its doors, studios and stages, with past annual editions landing in culturally rich cities such as Berlin, Dublin, New York, London, Sao Paulo, Cape Town, Rome, Seattle, Melbourne, Toronto and Barcelona. As a participant of the 2006 edition in Melbourne, Flying Lotus serves as a shining example of what Red Bull Music Academy hopes to achieve.

A work of bass-driven metaphysics, Flying Lotus’ Los Angeles could have been regarded as a lone dispatch from a distant musical plane. Instead it has struck an ultimately resonant chord with everyone from the indie pack to Massive Attack, soul heads, and Portishead, as well as music critics across the globe.

Flying Lotus’ records have gained notoriety for their infinite replay value; each listen reveals a rhythm or melody that had previously gone unnoticed. Now, the industry is taking notice. A 2006 graduate of the Red Bull Music Academy in Melbourne, Flying Lotus has continued on to rack up an increasingly impressive resumé. Following his first album 1983, Flying Lotus was approached by the seminal British label Warp for a record deal, in addition to being selected by Radiohead to remix their song “Reckoner” from In Rainbows.

Now, Flying Lotus brings his infamous live show to Montreal. Anyone who has attended one of his legendary live sets is familiar with the stark contrast between them and the records. When Flying Lotus performs live, it’s like the splitting of the atom in a nuclear bomb. All of the intricacy that ties the records together is unleashed and converted to raw sonic power, fueling a relentless, kinetic mess on the dance floor. In other words, Flying Lotus goes BIG live. This is your chance to see a master at work and at play.

Flying Lotus plays Saturday July 11 at Club Lambi with special guests My Man Henri, Speakerbruiser (Megasoid/Sixtoo), and Lunice

Tickets are $10 in advance and are available at Off The Hook, Moog Audio, and Admission.

This past week Lookout handled the official afterparty for Phoenix at Blue Dog! The band's sold out show earlier in the evening was incredible - they proved beyond any doubt that their hype is well-earned. If you don't know, now you know.  Afterwards, the band came down to Blue Dog for the official afterparty and things got wild. This was a great showing for the band and it was our pleasure to show them Montreal's finest. Check out some pics from the evening...

Tell me bad ass grasshoppa, whats your persona about this americana?

In the age of blog music, I thought I'd switch it up and butter the duck with mostly mainstream hip-hop and r&b. I heard most of these tracks on the only radio station I'll listen to: Hot97 in NYC. I gotta say that with all the crap out there in this genre, this historical station is better than most with about 2% of airtime being dedicated to solid DJs playing the the few new good shits that come out, and another 2% of airtime for strictly old school nyc-raps. Give it a chance, c'mon. Lemme know what you think.

Devro in India

This post is jacked straight from the Mad Decent Blog. Paul Devro played at Tokyo Thursdays two months ago. This month he's getting himself involved in the politics of globalization in really amazing way. Taking advantage of his creativity and music hes dipping into the politics of development as it pertains to the poor and the possibilities of the music and the internet. Having been to India recently, I can't say how much I'd like to get involved with something like this. Check it out:

Mad Decent Invades India

Isaiyarasi

In the middle of March I’ll be heading to the largest slum in Asia, Dhavari, in Mumbai India. I’ve been invited to the Urban Typhoon redevelopment project along with other doctors, architects, musicians and more in Koliwada. Nestled between two major business districts, the slum is facing major turmoil as global firms are bidding billions on the land as we speak. There are clauses though, such as free 225 foot flats for those who can prove residency since 1995. But for the nearly one million populating the region this likely an impossible dream and by terms of assisting the community, falls very very short. The total strain on society when merging these two very different lifestyles needs to be more examined and thought out too.

Working toilets are rare, so i’m betting that the internet isn’t on every corner but i’ll be trying to keep daily posts while i’m over there and of course posting music from the region. I’m starting up a sort of Heaps Decent program while I’m over there too. Plus we’ll be throwing a major Mad Decent party at the end thanks to the brand new Blue Frog Club. They are do the unheard of by letting 100 Dhavari kids in for free, who would not be able to make it past the bouncers at any ohter club any other night. It’s gonna be a crazy party.
